The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has overturned a previous verdict, declaring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Kodua, the winner of the Fanteakwa-North parliamentary elections. This decision follows a review of the initial results, which had been contested by the NPP in the aftermath of the election.
Kodua’s victory was initially challenged after the EC had declared the opposition party's candidate as the winner in the November 2024 election. The NPP alleged discrepancies in the vote counting and sought a thorough review of the election results. After a thorough investigation and reconsideration of the available evidence, the EC reversed its initial decision and declared Kodua as the legitimate winner.
In its statement, the Electoral Commission confirmed that the review process had been conducted transparently and in accordance with electoral laws. The Commission assured the public that all necessary checks and balances were followed to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. As a result, Kodua has now officially been declared the duly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Fanteakwa-North.
Kodua, in his response to the EC’s declaration, expressed gratitude to his supporters and reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Fanteakwa-North. He emphasized that his focus would be on addressing the key issues affecting the constituency, including infrastructure development, education, and healthcare.
This decision has sparked reactions across the political landscape, with supporters of the NPP celebrating the outcome, while the opposition party expressed concerns about the fairness of the process. Regardless, the EC’s final verdict has now settled the matter, and Kodua will take his seat in the Parliament for the upcoming term.
The EC's ruling has highlighted the importance of electoral integrity and the role of the Commission in ensuring that elections are free, fair, and transparent. With the issue resolved, all eyes will now be on the upcoming parliamentary sessions.
