the Cedi Will Be My Top Priority – Mahama
President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Ghana’s pressing economic challenges, pledging to prioritise stabilising the nation’s currency and fostering economic growth. Speaking on his vision for the country, Mahama stressed that his administration’s focus would be on implementing bold measures to curb inflation, strengthen the cedi, and ensure sustainable development.
During a visit by the Algerian Ambassador to Ghana, Mourad Louhaidia, who called to congratulate him on his electoral victory, Mahama elaborated on the critical need to rebuild Ghana’s economic foundations. He pointed out that recent economic hardships, including the depreciation of the currency and rising inflation, have taken a toll on businesses and individuals alike.
“Stabilising the cedi and tackling inflation are top priorities for my administration,” Mahama said. “We are committed to restoring confidence in the economy, ensuring fiscal discipline, and implementing policies that create jobs and improve living standards for all Ghanaians.”
He further highlighted the role of international cooperation in achieving these goals, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties with global partners. Mahama specifically mentioned China as a key ally in advancing Ghana’s economic agenda and revealed plans to initiate discussions on technical and economic collaboration.
“This is a critical time for Ghana to work closely with its international partners,” he noted. “We will waste no time in constituting a delegation to engage with China and other strategic allies. These discussions will focus on enhancing technical cooperation and exploring opportunities to drive economic recovery.”
Mahama expressed confidence in his government’s ability to navigate the challenges ahead, citing his administration’s previous successes in managing economic crises. He assured Ghanaians that efforts to stabilise the cedi and foster economic growth would translate into tangible improvements in their daily lives.
As Ghana prepares for a smooth transition of power, Mahama reiterated his vision of a resilient economy, anchored by strong policies, global partnerships, and a commitment to the welfare of the people. He called on all stakeholders to support his administration’s efforts in building a stronger, more stable Ghana.
With these priorities in focus, Mahama aims to position Ghana as a beacon of economic recovery and growth in the region.
