Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mallam Ali Yusuf Isa, has expressed bitterness over a recent incident involving former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Although he refused to disclose the details, Mallam Isa believes the former President's action has vindicated his long-held claim that his imprisonment over two decades ago was orchestrated.

Mallam Isa's imprisonment stemmed from his failure to account for $46,000 meant as a winning bonus for the Black Stars in a 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sudan. The money, contained in a luggage, went missing, and Mallam Isa, then the Sports Minister, was held responsible. The luggage returned by a different flight, but the money was missing.

In a recent interview on Abatoɔ Asoɔeɛ on Onua TV, Mallam Isa recounted the incident, stating that he had put the matter behind him and moved on. However, he revealed that a recent action by former President Kufuor has made him realize that his imprisonment was not just fate, but a deliberate act.

Mallam Isa noted that despite being a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), he had maintained a good relationship with former President Kufuor, visiting him occasionally. However, the recent incident has changed his perspective on the past events.

When asked to disclose the details of the recent incident, Mallam Isa declined, stating that it was a business transaction. He also revealed that former President Kufuor had prevented his successor, the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, from appointing him as a minister. Mallam Isa claimed that he had been assured of a ministerial position to redeem himself, but former President Kufuor had intervened, citing some comments Mallam Isa allegedly made against him.

Mallam Isa's claims have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his imprisonment and the role of former President Kufuor in the events that unfolded. While the details of the recent incident remain unclear, Mallam Isa's statements have sparked a renewed interest in the case and its implications for Ghanaian politics.
