A disturbing incident has unfolded in the Oti Region of Ghana, where three missionary Catholic priests were assaulted by local youth in Nkwanta. The attack, which took place on December 11, 2024, has sparked a massive manhunt by the Ghana Police Service to apprehend the suspects.

According to reports, the priests were traveling with officials from the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly to inspect a plot of land in Chieso. They were using machinery from the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) for land clearing when they were confronted by local youth. The youth misinterpreted their actions as stealing the equipment, leading to a violent confrontation that left one of the priests injured.

The Ghana Police Service has vowed to "leave no stone unturned" in their pursuit of justice, ensuring that the suspects are apprehended and face the full force of the law. The police have also assured the public that the priests have been treated as victims throughout the investigation process and were not detained at any point.

In a related development, the Ghana Police Service has reported that no major incidents have been recorded in the past 24 hours. However, the police have moved to provide security at the National Police Training School in Accra, where the collation of outstanding election results from four constituencies in the Eastern Region is ongoing.

The police have also announced that 123 suspects arrested in connection with various acts of lawlessness are being taken through the due process of the law. Four additional suspects arrested yesterday are also being processed accordingly.

The Ghana Police Service has reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring security, law, and order across the country. The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has spoken with the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference, Most Rev Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, and assured him of a thorough investigation into the incident.

As the investigation unfolds, the Ghana Police Service is urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
