Veteran football administrator Abdul Salam Yakubu has urged the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to prioritize completing the New Edubiase Stadium. The construction of this facility began under the previous NDC administration, but it remains incomplete, leaving New Edubiase FC without a permanent home ground. Yakubu, who also serves as the financial backer for the team, expressed frustration over the delays, highlighting how it has affected his team’s logistics and performance. He stressed the importance of completing the stadium to alleviate the difficulties his team faces when traveling around the country for matches.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite, Yakubu criticized the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for not continuing the project. According to Yakubu, the NPP deliberately neglected the stadium project, which began under the previous NDC government. He argued that finishing the New Edubiase Stadium should be a priority for the NDC’s new administration, as it would not only benefit New Edubiase FC but also enhance local football development. Yakubu pointed out that the lack of a dedicated home ground has put additional pressure on his team, making it difficult to attract fans and maintain consistent support.

As the NDC prepares to take office, Yakubu hopes that the new government will take his concerns seriously and allocate the necessary resources to complete the stadium. He believes that the stadium’s completion will not only benefit New Edubiase FC but also provide a boost to grassroots football in the region. Yakubu’s call for action underscores the need for continuity in sports infrastructure development, which he sees as vital for the growth of football in Ghana. With the stadium unfinished, New Edubiase FC has struggled to maintain home advantage, impacting their ability to perform on the national stage. Therefore, Yakubu’s plea for the NDC government to complete the New Edubiase Stadium is not just a call for local development but a plea for the future of football in Ghana.
