Nana Ohene Ntow, the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lauded Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), for his outstanding security measures during the December 7 elections, which he believes were crucial in maintaining peace and stability in Ghana.

He emphasized that Ghanaians should publicly recognize the IGP for its comprehensive security strategy, executed under immense pressure during the elections. Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, Nana Ohene Ntow, an ally of Alan Kyerematen, said that political parties were particularly impressed by Dampare’s bold leadership and expertise.
“To be honest, Ghanaians should commend Dampare. His security measures and strategic planning saved the country. Without him and his team, things could have gone badly. We saw the behaviour of some undisciplined soldiers, but Dampare firmly stated that the military would only be deployed under his orders, and he kept his word. God bless him for the work he did,” Nana Ohene Ntow said.
He urged Ghanaians to be conscious of and praise leaders who exceed expectations, just as they are quick to criticize those who fall short.
In the meantime, Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has fought for the IGP against criticism from ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo. Professor Gyampo labelled the criticism as “unwarranted and unfair.”
On Thursday, Professor Gyampo spoke highly of Dr Dampare for his transformative leadership of the Ghana Police Service, which, he said, has very much enhanced the service’s reputation and operational effectiveness.
“This criticism is unfair and unfortunate. While freedom of speech is important, it is inappropriate for a respected retired police officer to make such remarks,” Professor Gyampo stated.
He highlighted the IGP’s achievements, including his resilience, commitment to fairness during the recent elections, and his courage in defying orders that contradicted his principles as a law enforcement officer.
“This is the only IGP who has survived an attempt to remove him for doing his job well. He is the only IGP who stopped a large-scale military deployment aimed at disrupting some voting centres in the recent elections,” Professor Gyampo remarked.
The lecturer also praised Dr Dampare for transforming policing in Ghana and earning praise from the public and opposition parties for his impartiality and professionalism.
“Dampare’s adjustments have been felt nationwide,” he added, urging Ghanaians to acknowledge his significant contributions to national security.
The IGP’s leadership in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the elections has been widely recognized, solidifying his reputation as a transformative figure in Ghana’s security sector.
