Following the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) significant loss in the recent elections, Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ketu North, has called on the party to stop blaming external factors and focus on a constructive evaluation of their defeat.

In his comments, Agbana emphasized that the NPP should stop engaging in the blame game and instead prioritize self-reflection. Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, he pointed out that blaming voter apathy or other parties for their loss would not solve the underlying issues that contributed to their poor performance. He acknowledged that voter apathy was not exclusive to the NPP but had affected all political parties, including his own.

“I think my advice to my friends in the NPP is that they need to step back, conduct a deep assessment of their loss, and understand the factors that led to their defeat," Agbana stated. "Instead of continuing to blame voter apathy or external forces, the NPP must focus on what went wrong internally."

Agbana's message was clear: the party needs to look within to identify areas for improvement, rather than using external factors as scapegoats. He also recognized that the issue of voter apathy was a broader national problem, not one confined to any single party or region.

The NPP’s defeat has left the party grappling with its internal dynamics and voter engagement strategies. Agbana’s remarks serve as a call for a more introspective approach to recovery, where the party should re-evaluate its strategies, policies, and communication efforts to better resonate with the electorate moving forward.

Agbana’s comments resonate with a growing sentiment that political parties in Ghana must mature in their approaches to electoral defeat. Rather than shifting blame, they should take responsibility and work to rebuild trust and support among the electorate.

As the NPP reflects on the results, Agbana’s advice offers a path forward: focus on genuine self-reflection, address the factors that led to their defeat, and come back stronger in future elections.
