Development of Cassava Factory in Bobriease.
The long-awaited cassava processing factory in Bobriease has finally commenced development, marking a significant milestone for the community and surrounding areas. The groundbreaking event took place earlier this morning, drawing the attention of community leaders, government officials, and excited residents who are eager to witness the economic transformation this project promises.
The factory, spearheaded under the government’s One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative, aims to provide a sustainable boost to the local economy. Cassava, a staple crop in the region, is widely cultivated by local farmers. However, challenges like post-harvest losses and low market prices have hindered farmers from realizing its full economic potential. The establishment of the processing factory is expected to address these challenges by creating a value chain that ensures local farmers have a ready market for their produce.
Addressing the crowd during the event, the District Chief Executive expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in making the project a reality. “This factory will not only provide employment for our youth but also reduce wastage, enhance productivity, and contribute to rural industrialization. It is a dream come true for Bobriease,” he remarked.
The factory will be equipped to process cassava into various products, including flour, starch, and gari, which are in high demand both locally and internationally. According to the project coordinators, it is projected to generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs upon completion, offering opportunities for skilled and unskilled labor alike.
Local farmers have also expressed optimism about the factory's impact. A cassava farmer, Madam Adjoa Mensah, shared her thoughts: “For years, we have struggled to sell our cassava at a good price. This factory means more income for us and less waste. We are truly excited about the future.”
The construction is expected to take approximately one year, with the factory set to become operational by late 2025. Once completed, it is anticipated to transform Bobriease into a hub for cassava processing and trade in the region.
