Five parliamentary candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are contesting the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections in their constituencies. In separate petitions submitted to the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa, on December 13, 2024, these candidates insist they were the rightful winners and are demanding either the collation or re-collation of results.

Two candidates Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah of Techiman South and Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh of Ablekuma North have called for the immediate collation of results, alleging undue delays. Meanwhile, Charles Forson (Tema Central), Patrick Yaw Boamah (Okaikwei Central), and Mike Aaron Oquaye Jnr (Dome-Kwabenya) are requesting re-collation due to alleged irregularities in the original process.

Techiman South

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah expressed concern over the failure to collate the constituency’s results despite polls closing nearly a week ago. He urged the EC Chair to instruct the returning officer to finalize and declare the results promptly.

“I am demanding that the returning officer for Techiman South collate and declare the parliamentary election results,” Korsah stated in his petition.

Ablekuma North

Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh alleged irregularities, claiming that her polling agents were attacked, and some copies of the EC’s statement of results sheets (pink sheets) were stolen. She also accused the returning officer of being coerced into declaring the NDC candidate, Awurabena Aubunn, as the winner.

“I have attached scanned copies of all 281 pink sheets, which clearly show I won with a margin of 411 votes. The results are Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh (NPP) with 34,610 votes and Awurabena Aubunn (NDC) with 34,199 votes,” she stated.

Tema Central

Charles Forson called for what he described as a “proper collation,” alleging that the initial process excluded results from two polling stations. He argued that including these votes would give him a total of 18,870 votes, surpassing the NDC’s 18,815 votes.

Okaikwei Central

Patrick Yaw Boamah also demanded a re-collation, stating that the initial process excluded 31 polling stations. He insisted the omission significantly impacted the final outcome, which favored the NDC.

Dome-Kwabenya

Mike Aaron Oquaye Jnr alleged that the collation in his constituency was conducted without his representatives present, violating electoral regulations. He has requested the EC to conduct a lawful collation to ensure transparency.

These petitions underscore ongoing tensions following the 2024 elections, with the NPP candidates determined to challenge the EC’s declared results. The Electoral Commission has yet to respond to the demands.
