Gomoa Central MP-elect Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has hinted at the possibility of aligning with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Ghana’s Parliament. In a recent interview, the controversial musician-turned-politician revealed that discussions are ongoing regarding his political alignment, but he emphasized that no definitive decisions have been made.

This development comes after A Plus secured a seat in Parliament during the December 2024 elections. As an independent candidate with a strong following, his position holds potential influence in shaping the dynamics of Ghana’s legislature, particularly in a Parliament that may witness intense competition between party factions.

“We are in talks, but I am not rushing into any decisions to join the majority caucus,” A Plus stated, adding that he is carefully considering the best course of action for his constituents and the nation at large.

The MP-elect’s recent remarks follow speculations about his political leanings after his outspoken criticisms of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration. Over the years, A Plus has publicly voiced his dissatisfaction with the government, labeling it as self-centered and failing to deliver on key promises.

Despite his independence, A Plus’s possible alignment with the NDC caucus has generated significant public interest. Political analysts suggest that his decision could strengthen the NDC’s position in Parliament, giving them greater leverage in advancing their legislative agenda.

This potential shift has further intensified discussions about the changing dynamics of Ghana’s political landscape. While some commentators see A Plus’s alignment as a strategic move, others remain skeptical about whether his independent stance will allow him to fully integrate into a party caucus.

Meanwhile, the NDC appears optimistic about engaging with the newly elected MP. Sources close to the party indicate that discussions are centered on common policy goals and ways to collaborate effectively.

A Plus has maintained that his priority remains serving the people of Gomoa Central. He insists that any decision he makes will be guided by the best interests of his constituents and the broader vision of promoting accountability and good governance in Parliament.

As Ghana prepares for a new parliamentary session, all eyes are on A Plus to see how his decisions will influence the balance of power. His entry into Parliament has already sparked debates about the role of independent candidates in shaping the future of Ghanaian politics.
