The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has declared the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies as illegal. This decision was made due to the irregularities in the declaration process, which did not follow the laid-down procedures as outlined in CI 127.

According to Deputy EC Chair for Operations, Samuel Tettey, the re-collation process in these constituencies was compromised by party supporters who took over the process and forced EC staff to declare results in favor of their preferred candidates.¹ Despite the presence of police at the collation centers, the process was still disrupted, and EC officers were threatened into declaring winners.

The EC has concluded that the collation and declarations made in these constituencies are invalid and cannot be upheld. This decision is based on the fact that the processes for collation and declaration as set out in CI 127 were violated and not followed.

In contrast, the EC has successfully completed the re-collation of parliamentary results in three constituencies: Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North. However, re-collation is still pending in Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.

The Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and upholding the principles of transparency and fairness. The commission's website provides detailed information on the electoral process, including voter registration, polling stations, and electoral results.

The EC's decision to invalidate the parliamentary results in the four constituencies has significant implications for the electoral process in Ghana. The commission's commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the integrity of the process is crucial in maintaining public trust and confidence in the electoral system.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by electoral commissions in ensuring the smooth conduct of elections. The presence of party supporters and the threat of violence can compromise the process and undermine the credibility of the results.

The EC's efforts to re-collate the results in the affected constituencies demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability. The commission's decision to invalidate the results and re-conduct the re-collation process ensures that the electoral process is fair, credible, and reflects the will of the people.

In conclusion, the Electoral Commission's decision to invalidate the parliamentary results in the four constituencies is a testament to its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. The commission's efforts to re-collate the results demonstrate its dedication to transparency, accountability, and fairness.
