Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, has taken to social media to reflect on her recent defeat in the parliamentary elections. In a heartfelt Facebook post, she expressed her gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the nation over the past eight years.¹

Owusu-Ekuful, who also served as the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, thanked her constituents for their support, saying "Thank you, Ablekuma West!! Sayonara." Her message was one of optimism and confidence, as she looked to the future, stating "Next chapter in my life unfolding, so let's see what He (God) has in store for me".²

The parliamentary election saw Owusu-Ekuful defeated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo. Rev. Addo secured 31,866 votes, while Owusu-Ekuful received 26,575 votes. This defeat marks the end of her tenure as MP for Ablekuma West, a position she has held since the constituency's creation in 2012.

Despite her defeat, Owusu-Ekuful remains committed to serving her community. She has expressed her intention to continue supporting society through her foundation and mentoring the next generation of leaders.

As she embarks on this new chapter in her life, Owusu-Ekuful's message of gratitude, optimism, and confidence serves as an inspiration to her constituents and the wider community.

Owusu-Ekuful's departure from parliament marks the end of an era for the people of Ablekuma West. During her tenure, she worked tirelessly to improve the lives of her constituents, focusing on initiatives such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

As a minister, Owusu-Ekuful played a crucial role in shaping Ghana's digital landscape. She oversaw the implementation of several key projects, including the rollout of mobile money interoperability and the development of a national digital address system.

Despite her many accomplishments, Owusu-Ekuful's defeat serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of politics. Her loss is a testament to the fact that even the most experienced and accomplished politicians can face challenges at the polls.

As Owusu-Ekuful looks to the future, she is likely to remain a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics. Her experience, expertise, and passion for public service make her an asset to any organization or initiative she chooses to pursue.

In the words of Owusu-Ekuful herself, "Next chapter in my life unfolding, so let's see what He (God) has in store for me." As she embarks on this new journey, her constituents, colleagues, and the wider public will be watching with interest to see what the future holds for this remarkable woman.
