Mahama Office Dismisses Speculation About Future Appointees: “False and Unauthorised”

The office of former President John Dramani Mahama has firmly denied recent reports speculating about appointments in a future Mahama-led government, describing them as “false and unauthorised.” The statement comes in response to circulating lists suggesting names of individuals likely to occupy key positions if Mr. Mahama wins the 2024 presidential election.

In an official press release, Mahama’s office clarified that no such decisions have been made and no official lists have been authorised. The statement emphasised that these speculations are designed to create confusion and should be treated with skepticism.

“These lists are false, unauthorised, and should be disregarded. They do not reflect the intentions or decisions of President Mahama or the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” the release noted.

The former President, who is the NDC’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, has consistently focused on his vision for national development rather than on appointments. His campaign has highlighted plans for economic transformation, improved social services, and restoring confidence in governance. The speculation about appointees, therefore, appears to detract from these key campaign messages.

This dismissal also serves as a caution to party supporters and the general public to rely on verified sources for accurate information. In a political environment charged with anticipation ahead of the December 2024 elections, misinformation has become a growing concern.

Many political analysts believe that such lists could be part of a broader strategy by opponents to sow discord within the NDC or to gauge public reactions to potential appointments. However, Mahama’s office has made it clear that these tactics will not derail their focus.

The statement concluded by urging supporters to remain steadfast and unified, focusing on the party’s goals rather than unfounded speculation. “We encourage all NDC members and Ghanaians at large to stay focused on the mission to build the Ghana we want. The appointment of officials in any future government will follow due process and will be communicated officially when the time comes.”

This swift response underscores the importance of clarity and transparency in an election period where fake news and political rumors can easily spread.
