NDC Intercepts Alleged Hoarded Fertilizer in Ashanti Region
In a dramatic turn of events in the Ashanti Region, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intercepted and uncovered 10,000 bags of fertilizer allegedly hoarded by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to NDC representatives, the fertilizers were hidden in a warehouse and intended for distribution under the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs program. Samuel Adusei, an NDC official who was present at the site, stated:
"We cannot sit back while resources meant for hardworking Ghanaian farmers are hoarded for selfish political interests. This discovery is proof of the NPP’s disregard for fairness and transparency."
Videos and images of the uncovered fertilizer bags have been circulating widely on social media, causing outrage among citizens, particularly farmers who have been struggling with shortages. Several farmers have voiced their frustrations, claiming that access to subsidized fertilizers has been challenging in recent months.
The NPP, however, has denied the allegations. According to Nana Boakye, a regional NPP spokesperson, the fertilizers were legally stored and awaiting official distribution. He dismissed the claims of hoarding as a politically motivated stunt by the NDC, saying:
"These accusations are baseless. The fertilizers are part of routine supply management. The NDC is only trying to create unnecessary tension."
Despite the NPP’s explanation, the timing of the discovery has raised suspicions, given the increasing political tensions ahead of the elections. The issue has drawn reactions from stakeholders, with calls for an independent investigation to determine whether any laws were broken.
