Cocoa Farmers in Oti Western North Region Hopeful for Strong 2024/25 Season

Cocoa farmers in the Oti Western North Region of Ghana are expressing optimism for a resurgence in cocoa production during the upcoming 2024/25 season. This hopeful outlook comes as the region, known for its rich agricultural history, prepares for an increase in the volume and quality of its cocoa beans.

According to farmers in the region, the 2023/24 season had presented challenges, including fluctuating weather patterns and issues with pest control. However, recent reports from local agricultural experts suggest that improved weather conditions and the implementation of modern farming techniques could lead to a more fruitful season.

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has been actively working with farmers in the Oti Western North Region, providing training on best farming practices, new pest management methods, and improved crop varieties. These initiatives have led to higher yields and improved quality in other cocoa-producing regions, and farmers are hopeful that the same success will be replicated in their area.

"With the help from COCOBOD and the favorable weather we are seeing now, we are confident that we will see a much better harvest next year," said Kwame Agyemang, a cocoa farmer in the region. He emphasized the importance of the support from the government and local agricultural programs, which have helped farmers adapt to the changing climate and market demands.

The resurgence in cocoa production is particularly significant for the Oti Western North Region, where cocoa farming is a key economic activity. The sector provides employment for thousands of families and is a vital source of income for the community. A successful 2024/25 season would not only improve the livelihoods of these farmers but also contribute significantly to Ghana’s cocoa export earnings.

Farmers are also hopeful that the improvements in production will result in better prices at the local and international markets. As Ghana remains one of the largest cocoa producers in the world, any increase in the quality and quantity of the country's cocoa output could have a positive impact on global market trends.

As we look forward to the 2024/25 cocoa season, the optimism in the Oti Western North Region is palpable. Farmers are eager to see how the combination of improved farming techniques and better weather conditions will translate into a more prosperous future for the cocoa industry.
