Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has voiced unwavering confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s capability to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a potential victory in the 2028 elections. Aboagye believes Bawumia’s leadership qualities, innovative approach, and resilience make him the ideal candidate to rejuvenate the party after its loss in the 2024 polls.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face program, Aboagye stressed that Dr. Bawumia embodies the creativity and vision necessary to steer both the NPP and Ghana forward. He expressed optimism that the party would continue to rally behind the Vice President, who served as the party’s 2024 presidential candidate.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has proven time and again that he is the leader Ghana needs. His ability to introduce creative solutions to national challenges and his leadership qualities are unmatched. I believe the party will firmly stand with him should he decide to contest in 2028,” Aboagye remarked.
A Tested and Resilient Leader
When asked if Bawumia’s loss in the 2024 elections would dampen his political aspirations, Aboagye dismissed such concerns, citing Bawumia’s resilience in overcoming setbacks in the past.
“He lost as a running mate in 2008 and again in 2012. But he came back stronger in 2016 and was part of the team that achieved a historic victory. Dr. Bawumia has been through this journey before and has always emerged more determined. I am confident that he will do so again,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 bid ended in a decisive loss to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama. According to the Electoral Commission, Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), while Bawumia garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%). Despite the defeat, Aboagye believes the qualities that define Bawumia’s leadership remain intact, making him the NPP’s best hope for future elections.
Analyzing the 2024 Defeat
The NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections was not limited to the presidential race. The party also suffered significant setbacks in parliamentary contests, with the NDC claiming over 180 seats, including several constituencies that had been strongholds of the ruling party.
