Albert Amoah, a striker for Asante Kotoko, has disclosed that club icon Eric Bekoe called him to give him motivation and promised him a goal in Sunday's eagerly awaited matchup against Hearts of Oak.

Bekoe highlighted Amoah as one of the crucial players who may decide the result before the match, pointing to the forward's outstanding play all season long.

In the week 13 Ghana Premier League meeting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kotoko dominated play, but the first half finished in a draw.

But in the final seconds of the game, Amoah scored a spectacular goal in the 95th minute by taking advantage of a mistake made by Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey and goalie Benjamin Asare.

"He [Asibey] is a very powerful person and I know he gave me a really rough time in the game and I give the gratitude to Eric Beko," he said in a statement following the game.

"Albert, you have a goal in this match, so you can go out and make me proud," he informed me this morning.

Amoah is now the second-highest scorer in the Ghana Premier League with seven goals for the season as a result of the victory.

With their victory, Kotoko moves up to fifth position in the standings with 21 points, two points clear of seventh-place Hearts of Oak and only three behind leaders Heart of Lions.

Abdul Salam Yakubu calls on the incoming NDC government to name a capable sports minister.

Abdul Salam Yakubu, the president of New Edubiase United, has urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to name a capable sports minister who understands Ghanaian football and can advance the game.

Yakubu asserts that the previous appointees have not made any contributions to the expansion of the game in the nation.

In eight years, the present administration selected two ministers of sports. What did they do? He told Asempa FM, "We need a sports minister who can elevate our football to a new level and is really serious."

"The next government should pick a sports minister who is knowledgeable about the sport.

"Everyone can read and comprehend the procedures, and we are aware of them, but someone familiar with the specifics of the game should be in charge."

After Isaac Asiamah served as superintending for the previous four years, Mustapha Ussif has been the current sports minister for the last four years.
