President-elect John Dramani Mahama has assembled a formidable five-member team to spearhead the implementation of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), a key initiative aimed at recovering looted state funds and prosecuting corrupt officials. This move is part of Mahama's pledge to tackle corruption, particularly within the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration.
The team, tasked with gathering information on suspected corruption cases, is comprised of esteemed individuals with diverse expertise:
- Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa: Chairman and Member of Parliament for North Tongu
- Mr Daniel Domelevo: Former Auditor-General
- COP (Rtd.) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye: Retired Police Commissioner
- Mr Martin Kpebu: Private Legal Practitioner
- Mr Raymond Archer: Investigative Journalist
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the NDC's transition spokesperson, emphasized that anti-corruption, with Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) as a major plank, formed a core part of Mahama's policy platform during the 2024 campaign. Mahama intends to prioritize these commitments upon assuming office on January 7, 2025.
Meanwhile, the incoming NDC government has reiterated its resolve to reverse last-minute recruitments, payments, and promotions made by the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. This announcement follows tensions between the NPP and NDC transition teams over alleged last-minute decisions by agencies, including the Interior Ministry, Ghana Revenue Authority, and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The NDC transition team has condemned these actions as acts of bad faith and vowed to nullify them after the formal transfer of power. In response, Fatimah Abubakar, spokesperson for the NPP transition team, dismissed the claims, insisting that the outgoing administration is acting within its mandate to make administrative decisions.
Ghanaians have taken to social media to express their excitement and approval of Mahama's team, with many hoping that the initiative will lead to the prosecution of corrupt officials and the recovery of looted state funds.
The team's composition has been hailed as a masterstroke, bringing together individuals with a proven track record in fighting corruption. With the clock ticking down to Mahama's inauguration, expectations are high that Operation Recover All Loot will yield significant results and mark a new era in Ghana's fight against corruption. As the nation waits with bated breath, one thing is clear: Mahama's team is ready to hit the ground running.
