The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) has made a shocking accusation against Joseph Yamin, the National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and others. According to the PMMC, Yamin and his accomplices attempted to seize billion bars belonging to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) from the PMMC's head office.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, was part of the BoG's Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP). The programme aims to strengthen Ghana's gold reserves and bolster the country's economy. The PMMC revealed that the attempted seizure led to a standoff that required police intervention.

After several hours of negotiations, it was agreed that the bullion bars would be transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for safekeeping while efforts were made to resolve the issue. The PMMC noted that a private exporter, who is duly licensed to carry out gold exports, was also affected by the disruption.

The gold in the exporter's possession was being processed for export when the incident occurred. The PMMC described the event as "unfortunate," adding that it disrupted lawful operations and created unnecessary tension. The company condemned the incident, calling it an "unlawful action" that could damage Ghana's international reputation in the bullion market.

The PMMC warned that such disruptions undermine the confidence of international gold buyers and pose a risk to Ghana's standing as a trusted player in the global gold trade. The company urged all stakeholders to act responsibly to protect the country's economic interests and international credibility.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of Ghana's gold reserves and the potential consequences of such actions on the country's economy. The PMMC has called for calm and assured the public that it is working to resolve the issue and ensure the safekeeping of the bullion bars.

In a statement, the PMMC emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability in the gold trade. The company reiterated its role as the National Assayer and its responsibility to ensure the integrity of Ghana's gold exports.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the PMMC has urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully and to prioritize the country's economic interests. The company has also assured the public that it will provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
