Akorfa Edjeani Urges Patience as Ghana's Economic Recovery Takes Time
Veteran Ghanaian actress Akorfa Edjeani has called on citizens to remain patient and realistic as the country begins the long road to recovery from its current economic challenges. Speaking at a Thanksgiving Service organized by Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra, Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency, Akorfa expressed optimism about the leadership of President-elect John Dramani Mahama. However, she cautioned that the recovery process would not be swift and would require time and collective effort from all Ghanaians.
Akorfa described Mahama’s win as a significant moment for the country, reflecting the deep dissatisfaction among Ghanaians with the outgoing administration. She pointed to the arrogance and mismanagement of the previous government as contributing factors to the nation's current economic woes. For me, this win is very significant. It tells us that Ghanaians are very tired of the arrogance and the malfeasance, the financial doldrums that the elephant plunged us into, she remarked, referring to the previous administration’s failures.
The celebrated actress did not shy away from criticizing the state of Ghana's economy, emphasizing that the country’s struggles were a direct result of the outgoing government’s actions. Akorfa lamented the economic hardships faced by citizens, highlighting the need for a significant shift in leadership to rectify the situation.
What I am expecting from H.E. John Dramani Mahama is to lead us out of all these economic nightmares, she said. While expressing faith in Mahama's ability to lead the country forward, Akorfa was also realistic about the challenges that lie ahead. She urged Ghanaians to remain patient, acknowledging that the recovery process will take time. It’s not going to be easy, so I urge all Ghanaians to be patient because there is nothing in the coffers, let’s be realistic, she explained.
Akorfa further emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, The country has been turned upside down. They have stolen everything, all the money is gone. It’s going to take time to recover. Despite the challenges, she expressed hope that Ghanaians would come together as one people and support the efforts of President-elect Mahama in rebuilding the nation.
Her call for patience and unity comes at a critical time as Ghana faces substantial economic challenges. Akorfa’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of collective responsibility in navigating the country’s future.
