In a surprising turn of events, renowned Ghanaian cleric Archbishop Duncan Williams has received his first-ever nomination for the prestigious Ghana Movie Awards. He has been nominated in the Cameo Actor category, an honor that highlights his unexpected yet significant contribution to the Ghanaian film industry. This recognition comes ahead of the awards ceremony, set to take place on December 24 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The Ghana Movie Awards is one of the most prestigious events in the Ghanaian film industry, celebrating outstanding achievements in filmmaking. This year’s nominations list features a remarkable array of talented actors, directors, producers, and other professionals who have made notable contributions to the industry over the past year.
The 2024 awards will see 21 categories, including Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Directing, Achievement in Editing, Costume and Wardrobe, Production Design, Sound Mixing and Editing, and Writing Original or Adapted Screenplay. Other notable categories include Best Short Movie, Best Documentary, Best African Collaboration, and Best Picture, alongside the Cameo Actor category, where Archbishop Williams' nomination has drawn attention.
Among the competitive categories, the nominees for Actor in a Leading Role include Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, James Gardiner, Adjetey Anang, Anthony Woode, and Jeffery Nortey. For Actress in a Leading Role, the nominees are Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah, Nana Ama McBrown, Bless Fortune, Emelia Brobbey, and Habiba Sinare. The Actor in a Supporting Role category features John Dumelo, Kofi Adjorlolor, Van Vicker, Majid Michel, and Clement Bonney (Mr. Beautiful), while the Actress in a Supporting Role category includes Sonia Ibrahim, Roselyn Ngissah, Sandra Ababio, Christabel Ekeh, Tracy Boakye, Kalsoume Sinare, Maame Ofosuah Anim, Sika Dzuali, and Chichi Neblett.
Additionally, the Discovery of the Year category is highly anticipated, with nominees such as Rosemond Brown (Akuapim Poloo), Frank Ntiamoah, Mawena Azumah, Asantewaa, Sherita Adu, Quesh, and Augustina Aboabo competing for the title.
Phred Nuamah, CEO of the Ghana Movie Awards, has promised an unforgettable ceremony, emphasizing that this year’s event will be a spectacular celebration of Ghanaian cinema. The dress code for the evening will be strictly formal, with tuxedos and Kente for men and evening gowns for women.
The Ghana Movie Awards, established in 2010, has since grown into a landmark event in the country's entertainment calendar, with its first edition held on December 25 at the AICC.
