Alejandro Garnacho has won the 2024 FIFA Puskás Award, beating a strong field that included Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus and 10 other contenders. The Manchester United forward’s stunning overhead kick against Everton in November 2023 was the clear winner, receiving the most votes in the prestigious award’s voting process.

The goal, which came after a precise cross from United right-back Diogo Dalot, was an acrobatic strike that left fans and football experts in awe. Garnacho’s incredible technique and composure in scoring the goal earned him widespread acclaim and made him a deserving winner of the award.

Garnacho triumphed over Mohammed Kudus, who had impressed with a brilliant solo run and goal during the 2023/2024 Europa League season for West Ham. Despite Kudus' exceptional performance, which had placed him among the top contenders for the Puskás Award, the Ghanaian finished fifth in the voting, securing six votes from FIFA’s panelists and seven from fans.

The voting process for the Puskás Award was split between two groups: FIFA legends and fans. The points were allocated as follows: five for first place, three for second, and one for third. Each group’s votes made up 50% of the total, which ensured that the final tally reflected both expert and fan opinions.

Garnacho received the highest combined total of 26 points, securing him first place. His victory reflects his rise to prominence as one of the brightest young talents in world football. The goal against Everton not only showcased his athleticism and skill but also highlighted his growing importance in Manchester United’s attack.

This award marks another significant milestone in Garnacho’s young career. The 20-year-old winger’s talent and determination have earned him recognition on the world stage, and this accolade will undoubtedly boost his confidence as he continues to develop into a key player for both Manchester United and Argentina. With his first Puskás Award now in hand, Garnacho is poised for even greater achievements in the future.
