Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced to leave the field after suffering a facial injury during PSG's Ligue 1 match against Monaco on Wednesday night. The game, which took place at the Stade Louis II, was a crucial one for both teams, with just seven points separating Monaco and PSG at the top of the table. Both sides were aiming for a vital victory to maintain their title challenge.

The match, however, took a dramatic turn early on when Donnarumma was on the receiving end of a horrific tackle. Monaco's right-back Wilfried Singo made a strong run into PSG’s half, and in the process, he accidentally caught the Italian goalkeeper in the face with his studs. The impact left Donnarumma on the ground, and he required immediate medical attention. The collision led to significant facial lacerations, which necessitated stitches to close the wound.

Despite receiving a booking earlier in the game, Singo avoided a red card. Referee François Letexier judged that the tackle was unintentional, and therefore, no further disciplinary action was taken against the Monaco defender. However, the injury to Donnarumma was severe enough for him to be substituted, and he did not return to the match. His absence forced PSG to play without their first-choice goalkeeper for the remainder of the game.

Despite the setback, PSG managed to secure a 4-2 victory over Monaco, which allowed them to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 standings to 10 points. The win was important for PSG’s title hopes, but Donnarumma’s injury left a cloud over the result.

Further tests are expected to assess the full extent of the injury and determine how long PSG will be without their star goalkeeper. While the club has not confirmed a timeline for his recovery, the injury is expected to sideline Donnarumma for some time. PSG will now have to rely on their backup goalkeeper while awaiting news on Donnarumma's condition and the potential impact on their upcoming fixtures.
