In a candid interview on the Receipts Podcast, Tiwa discussed how she had avoided talking about the divorce until now, largely due to the harsh public reaction when the news broke. She and her ex-husband, Tee Billz, had been married from 2013 to 2018 and share a son. The singer recalled how, in the early stages of her career, she was viewed as a role model, doing everything "by the book"—attending university, getting married, and having a child.
However, the breakdown of her marriage and its highly publicized nature turned her from a national icon into a figure of controversy.
