NDC Youth Who Confronted Armed Soldiers at Obuasi Meets President-Elect Mahama

In a remarkable display of bravery, Yahya Al HaQ, a youth member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), confronted two armed soldiers at a polling station in Obuasi, Ghana, on Election Day, December 7. The incident, which was broadcast live on television, sparked widespread admiration and praise for Yahya's courage.

Recently, Yahya met with President-Elect John Dramani Mahama at his Cantonments office in Accra. Mahama commended Yahya for his exceptional display of bravery in the face of the armed soldiers. Abass Nurudeen, the Ashanti Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, accompanied Yahya to the meeting and shared photos of the encounter on social media.

Ambassador Alhaji Sinare, a prominent member of the NDC, also praised Yahya for his role in ensuring the party's victory in the Obuasi East constituency. In a video, Sinare thanked Yahya for his bravery, stating that he had "killed himself" to resist the armed soldiers. Sinare promised that the party would reward Yahya for his efforts.

The incident occurred when two armed soldiers stormed a polling station in Obuasi, despite prior agreements that security would be provided by the police. Yahya, who was present at the polling station, confronted the soldiers, overpowering them and preventing them from disrupting the voting process.

Yahya's bravery has been widely commended by Ghanaians, who have called for him to be recognized and rewarded for his actions. The incident has also highlighted concerns about the role of the military in Ghana's electoral process.

In related news, Ghana has a long history of military involvement in politics, dating back to the colonial era. The country has made significant progress in consolidating democracy, but challenges remain. The incident at Obuasi highlights the need for continued vigilance and efforts to promote democratic governance and the rule of law in Ghana.
