Nsawam-Adoagyiri lawmaker Frank Annoh-Dompreh has welcomed the High Court's decision to direct the Electoral Commission (EC) to recollate and declare the results of the Ablekuma North and Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituencies. This ruling comes despite previous declarations of the election results.
Annoh-Dompreh expressed his anticipation of the court's decision, stating that the court "did its job" and that he is eager to proceed with the collation and declaration of results. He added that his team has already internally collated the results and is confident of their victory.
The court's decision was made in response to a writ filed by aggrieved parliamentary candidates from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The candidates cited anomalies in the collation of results and the subsequent declaration of winners.
Presiding judge Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman ordered the EC to proceed with the recollation of results in the Ablekuma North constituency, despite objections from NDC legal representatives led by Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo. Similarly, objections raised by Gary Nimako, lead counsel for Frank Annoh-Dompreh, were also overruled.
The court's decision highlights the need for transparency and accuracy in the electoral process. The recollation of results is expected to provide clarity on the outcome of the elections in the two constituencies.
In a related development, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Amenorpe Philbert Fummey, had earlier sued the EC, seeking a fresh election in the constituency. Fummey alleged that the EC used invalid statement of results (pink sheets) to collate the results for the constituency.
The court's decision to order the recollation of results is a significant development in the ongoing electoral disputes. It remains to be seen how the recollation process will unfold and what the final outcome will be.
The Electoral Commission is expected to comply with the court's order and proceed with the recollation of results. The commission has been under pressure to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, and this latest development is a test of its commitment to transparency and fairness.
