Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, fondly known as Mama G, recently opened up about her challenging journey to stardom and the struggles she faced to support her family before finding success in the entertainment industry.

Speaking during the pre-premiere dinner for Funke Akindele’s highly anticipated movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, Mama G reflected on the sacrifices she made and the odd jobs she took on to ensure her children had a better life. She also used the opportunity to praise Funke Akindele, describing her as a dedicated and hardworking woman, qualities she deeply admires.

Funke Akindele is a very strong woman. I love strong women because I am one myself, she began. When I look at Funke, I see a reflection of myself. She’s relentless, hardworking, and determined to make an impact, just like I have been throughout my life.

The iconic actress delved into her personal struggles, revealing how she had to endure immense challenges to provide for her family. Patience shared a particularly poignant memory of the unconventional and demanding jobs she took on in her early years.

I used to go to the morgue to dress dead bodies so my children could go to school and have food to eat, she disclosed. I did so many things—things most people wouldn’t even consider—to ensure my family could survive and thrive. My children’s education and well-being were my top priorities, and I was ready to do whatever it took to give them a better future.

Mama G’s story is one of resilience and determination. Despite the societal stigma and personal challenges that came with such jobs, she persevered, driven by her unwavering love for her children. Her efforts and sacrifices eventually paid off, earning her widespread admiration and recognition, not only within her family but also in her community.

You know they say no one is valued in their hometown, but in my case, my people appreciate me a lot, she said proudly. They saw everything I went through and respected me for my perseverance. That recognition means the world to me.

She reiterated her admiration for Funke Akindele, whom she described as a replica of herself. Funke is a workaholic, a strong woman, and someone who doesn’t back down from challenges. When I see her, I see someone destined for greatness.
