Franklin Cudjoe, the founder of IMANI Africa, has made accusations about the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration of plotting to draw out with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, due to his role in ensuring that the 2024 elections were free and fair.

In a Facebook post, Cudjoe stated that credible intelligence sources had revealed that Dr Dampare was being aimed at for opposing attempts to manipulate the election results. "We have very reliable intelligence that the current IGP is being harassed and threatened with removal from office by the Akufo-Addo administration before they leave office. His crime? Standing up for peaceful and transparent elections. For preventing the government from carrying out its plans for election rigging, which were previously attempted in other by-elections," he wrote.
Cudjoe also professed that the Electoral Commission (EC), in collaboration with government officials, was prod election security services to assist in the re-collation of votes in nine constituencies. He suggested that this was part of a broader effort to overturn the election results in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
"Now, in collusion with the overbearing Electoral Commission, the government is forcing election security services to help with the re-collation of votes in nine constituencies they believe they won," he claimed.
Cudjoe praised the Electoral Security Services for rejecting the EC's alleged request to alter the election results, which had declared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner. "Thankfully, the Electoral Security Services have firmly denied the EC's request to rig the clear mandate given to the NDC," he added, warning that such actions posed a threat to Ghana’s democracy.
The IMANI Africa founder cautioned against any attempt to remove Dr Dampare and replace him with someone who would support the alleged election rigging plot. "They are mistaken, and if they attempt to remove the IGP and install a puppet to assist the rigging-minded EC in overturning the will of the people in the nine constituencies, they will be responsible for the consequences," he warned.
Cudjoe urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama, the NDC, and other Ghanaians to resist such moves and protect the integrity of the election results.
These allegations come amidst amplified tensions following the 2024 elections, where the NDC emerged victorious, and John Dramani Mahama was declared President-elect. The NPP has yet to respond to Cudjoe’s claims.
