When Asante Kotoko takes on Dreams FC, who are in danger of relegation, at the Tuba AstroTurf in Accra on Saturday afternoon, they hope to build on their strong play.
The Porcupine Warriors will be aiming for their third straight league triumph after defeating archrivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 in the Super Clash, which lifted their spirits. But Dreams FC, who are keen to turn around their struggling campaign, might present a serious obstacle. After only one victory this season, the Still Believe Boys are currently in the relegation zone and have had difficulty adjusting to their new home field in Krokrobite.
Important players Albert Amoah, Saaka Dauda, Frederick Asare, and Emmanuel Antwi are all on national duty with the Black Galaxies, therefore Kotoko will not have them for the match. Amoah will be greatly missed. He has scored seven goals this season, including the game-winning goal against Hearts. Coach Prosper Ogum, nevertheless, will turn on Kwame Opoku, a rookie, to supply the offensive firepower.
Karim Zito's Dreams FC has had a difficult season, winning just two of their 13 games. They drew with Nsoatreman in their most recent match. Having won three of their last six matches, including a 2-0 triumph in April, they have a slight advantage over Kotoko in recent meetings.
With six victories in 13 games this season, Kotoko has an excellent record and is feeling quite confident following victory over the Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars. In contrast, Dreams FC has only managed five goals this season and will require a significant improvement to contend with the Porcupine Warriors.
On paper, Kotoko is the favorite, but Dreams' will to avoid relegation might make this a thrilling matchup. While Dreams are battling for their lives, a victory for Kotoko would maintain their hopes of winning the championship.
