Ghanaian vlogger Twene Jonas has stirred up controversy following former President John Dramani Mahama's declaration as the winner of the December 7 general election. In a live session on Facebook and YouTube, Jonas took credit for playing a significant role in Mahama’s victory, claiming that his efforts were key to securing the former president’s return to power.
Jonas boldly asserted that if anyone deserves Mahama’s gratitude, it is him. He argued that he had done much of the heavy lifting during the campaign, particularly through his outspoken criticism of the Akufo-Addo administration. According to Jonas, his efforts in highlighting the flaws of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) helped sway public opinion and ultimately led to a shift in voting patterns. He described himself as a "watchdog" over the Akufo-Addo government, saying that his constant advocacy for good governance and accountability made Ghanaians more aware of the issues at hand, leading them to vote against the NPP.
Despite his claims of being instrumental in the election outcome, Jonas made it clear that he wasn’t seeking financial rewards or material gifts from Mahama. “I am already rich,” he confidently declared, dismissing any notion of monetary compensation. Instead, he suggested a different form of appreciation: he proposed that Mahama give him his daughter, Farida Mahama, as a gesture of gratitude. His audacious remark, delivered with his trademark humor, has sparked intense reactions on social media. While some saw it as a joke, others criticized it as inappropriate.
Jonas' comments, while controversial, reinforce his reputation as a vocal and often provocative critic of Ghanaian leaders and policies. He has built a name for himself by challenging the status quo and calling out government shortcomings. His latest declaration adds another layer to his public persona as someone unafraid to stir the pot, even if it means courting controversy.
As Ghanaians react to his bold claims and unusual request, the question remains whether President Mahama will address Jonas’ statements. Regardless of the president-elect's response, Jonas has once again positioned himself as a central figure in the ongoing political discourse, leaving many curious about his next move.
