Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin recently opened up about the behind-the-scenes story of casting Nigerian superstar Ramsey Nouah in his movie A Country Called Ghana. Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson FM, Lilwin revealed how the decision to feature Ramsey came about unexpectedly.
Initially, Lilwin and his team had planned to cast Ghanaian actor Van Vicker in the role. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Van Vicker backed out at the last minute, leaving the team scrambling for a new star to fill the role. That's when Lilwin decided to approach Ramsey Nouah, a well-known Nigerian actor, for the part.
Lilwin shared that securing Ramsey's involvement in the project was not an easy task, as the actor’s fee was considerably high. The A Country Called Ghana star revealed that he paid Ramsey a significant amount to appear in the film, which he described as an amount that could cover the combined fees of all the major stars in Ghana, with some money still left over.
While Lilwin did not give a precise figure at first, he later disclosed that he paid Ramsey between $50,000 and $100,000 for his participation in the movie. This amount did not include other expenses related to the actor’s involvement, such as travel, accommodation, and other logistics. The revelation underscores the substantial investment Lilwin made to ensure the success of the film and secure a star of Ramsey's caliber.
Lilwin’s comments have stirred conversation in the entertainment industry, with many expressing surprise at the large sum involved in the casting. It also highlights the growing cost of production in the African movie industry, as actors of international repute like Ramsey Nouah demand higher fees for their roles.
Despite the significant financial outlay, Lilwin remains proud of the decision to bring Ramsey into the project, believing it was a worthwhile investment for the movie's success. Fans and industry insiders alike are now eagerly anticipating the release of A Country Called Ghana, which has already generated considerable buzz due to the star power of its cast.
