GHANA'S POLITICAL LANDSCAPE: NDC VOWS TO REVERSE LAST-MINUTE APPOINTMENTS AND PROMOTIONS

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made a bold move, vowing to reverse all last-minute promotions and appointments made by the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. This decision was announced by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC, during a victory rally in Sunyani on December 20.

Asiedu Nketiah alleged that the NPP government had issued around 10,000 appointment letters and promoted several government officials in the past week alone. He questioned the motive behind these last-minute decisions, suggesting that the outgoing government was attempting to cover up its tracks.

The NDC has identified several institutions where they claim to have gathered evidence of suspicious appointments and promotions, including:

- Ghana Immigration Service: Where some appointment letters are alleged to have been backdated.
- Ghana Revenue Authority: Where promotions are suspected to be based on favoritism rather than merit.
- National Health Insurance Authority: Where the NDC claims to have evidence of ghost workers.
- Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority: Where the party alleges that some appointments were made without following due process.

This move is not unprecedented, as former President John Mahama had previously stated that he would sack employees of the Ghana Cocoa Board recruited under the Akufo-Addo administration. The Minority in Parliament had also accused the Akufo-Addo government of sacking workers recruited under the previous NDC government.

The NDC's decision to reverse the appointments and promotions has sparked concerns about the potential impact on the country's bureaucracy. However, Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that the party would take action against any government official found to have played a role in the "fake" recruitments and promotions.

As Ghana's political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the NDC's decision will play out. One thing is certain, however: the incoming government is committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring that all appointments and promotions are made based on merit rather than favoritism.
