In a bold move to combat the devastating effects of illegal mining, Richard Kirk Mensah, the Western Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to expose government appointees allegedly involved in galamsey activities in the Western Region.
Mensah's decision comes as the region struggles with the environmental degradation and loss of natural resources caused by illegal mining. Despite government efforts to monitor and prevent these activities, Mensah notes that the problem persists, with areas like Beposo and the Ankobra River witnessing worsening pollution.
A Call for Accountability
Mensah emphasizes the need for greater accountability and transparency in the sector, stressing that leaders must take responsibility for their actions and decisions. He questions the involvement of government appointees in galamsey activities, particularly in areas like Ellembelle, which has been taken over by foreign nationals.
"It's time for some government appointees to answer tough questions about the illegality plaguing our region," Mensah said in a phone interview. "We need to hold those responsible for the environmental degradation and loss of natural resources accountable for their actions."
Supporting the "Reset Agenda"
As the Regional Communications Officer, Mensah is throwing his weight behind the president-elect's John Dramani Mahama "Reset Agenda." This vision for a better Ghana promises effective infrastructure, globally competitive skills, and a brighter future for all citizens.
Mensah believes that it's high time for Ghanaians to unite and support the newly elected president in resetting the nation. "The current state of leadership has reached a dead end, and if we don't make a change, I fear for our future," he said. "Let's join forces to build a better Ghana, one that works for everyone, not just a select few."
