Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has issued a stern warning against piracy of her highly anticipated film Everybody Loves Jenifa. The actress, who is known for her role in the popular Jenifa’s Diary series, shared the warning in a video posted to her Instagram page on Wednesday, urging her fans to refrain from recording or sharing any unauthorized content from the movie.

In the video, Funke Akindele emphasized the severe impact of piracy on the film industry, explaining that it harms not only filmmakers but also actors and everyone involved in the production process. She highlighted that piracy is a serious offense that undermines the financial stability of the industry, affecting the livelihoods of all those who work hard to bring these projects to life.

The 47-year-old actress revealed that strict security measures have been put in place at cinemas to prevent piracy, with plans to apprehend and take legal action against anyone caught recording the movie or posting footage online. Akindele expressed her concern over fans who, out of excitement or good intentions, might record the movie while watching it in theaters, warning that such actions could lead to arrest.

“I know you have mad love for me, and I know you want to support Everybody Loves Jenifa,” Funke said in the video. “But recording the movie is not the way to show your support.” She urged fans to show their love in other ways, such as by sharing the trailers and teasers on social media, taking pictures with movie standees at the cinemas, and encouraging others to watch the film on the big screen.

Funke emphasized that filming the movie during screenings is a form of piracy, which not only damages the industry but also hurts the success of the movie. “We spent a lot of money on Everybody Loves Jenifa, and piracy is killing us. It is not helping our brand,” she said.

The new film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, boasts a star-studded cast, including Omowunmi Dada, Nancy Isime, Falz, Stan Nze, and Jackie Appiah. With such a talented ensemble, Akindele's call for support through legitimate means highlights the need for fans to respect the work behind the scenes and ensure the movie's success by watching it legally in theaters.
