NPP will lose all 7 re-collated seats after Mahama's swearing in – Rev Owusu-Bempah.

Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has predicted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will lose all seven parliamentary seats recently awarded to them following the Electoral Commission's (EC) re-collation exercise.

According to Rev. Owusu-Bempah, this loss will occur after President-elect John Mahama assumes office on January 7, 2024. Although he did not provide details on how the NPP would lose the seats, he criticized the EC's actions, describing the re-collation process as questionable.

Speaking to his congregation during a sermon on Sunday, December 22, 2024, he stated, “I have heard that they have returned some seats to the NPP. Didn’t they already announce the winners? Now they are conducting re-collation? All the seven seats given to the NPP will be lost again after January 7, when Mahama is sworn in. What is the EC chair doing? She is something else.”

The NPP is set to hold at least 89 seats in Ghana's upcoming 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic. This comes after the EC resolved disputes over seven of nine constituencies initially contested.

Before the re-collation, Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin indicated that the NPP had secured 82 seats. Following the EC’s re-collation exercise on Saturday, December 21, 2024, the NPP candidates were declared winners in seven constituencies.

Four constituencies previously declared for the NDC—Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, and Techiman South—were overturned in favor of the NPP. For example, the Obuasi East seat initially won by NDC’s Samuel Aboagye was reassigned to NPP’s Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, while Tema Central, initially declared for NDC’s Ebi Bright, was re-awarded to NPP’s Charles Forson. Similarly, Techiman South and Okaikwei Central, originally declared for NDC candidates Christopher Beyere Baasongti and Baba Sadiq, were reassigned to NPP’s Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah and Dr. Patrick Boamah, respectively.

Additionally, the previously incomplete results for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, and Ahafo Ano North were finalized, awarding seats to NPP’s Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, and Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, respectively.

However, results for two constituencies—Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya—remain unresolved. In Ablekuma North, NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn was declared the winner despite the exclusion of results from 62 polling stations. The NPP candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh, a former MP and current Deputy Chief Executive of the Coastal Development Authority, awaits a final decision.

In Dome Kwabenya, NDC’s Elikplim Akurugu was declared the winner over NPP’s Mike Oquaye Jnr.

If the current standings hold, the NDC will have 181 seats in the 9th Parliament, with four seats held by independent candidates.
