After a two-year break, the Ghana Movie Awards is making a grand return in 2024, with the highly anticipated ceremony set to take place on December 24 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC). The announcement of this year’s nominees has sent waves of excitement through the Ghanaian film industry, as it highlights the outstanding work of filmmakers, actors, directors, producers, and technical teams over the past year.
The awards will honor excellence across 21 categories, ranging from technical fields like Achievement in Cinematography, Directing, Editing, and Sound Mixing to artistic categories such as Costume and Wardrobe, Production Design, and Best Picture. Among the top films vying for honors are Kadara, Taste of Sin, A Country Called Ghana, Pawn, and Widow’s Gift, all of which have garnered significant attention for their exceptional storytelling and production quality.
In the Achievement in Cinematography category, Kadara (Joshua Nii Dromo), Taste of Sin (Tunde Adekoya), and A Country Called Ghana (Evander Kwame Agyemang) stand out as the frontrunners, each showcasing visually striking cinematographic techniques. For Achievement in Directing, the nominees include Frank Rajah Arase (Taste of Sin), Pascal Amanfo (God is African), and Juliet Ibrahim (Widow’s Gift), all of whom have made significant contributions to their films’ artistic direction.
The Best Picture category features fierce competition, with Red Carpet (Samira Yakubu), Taste of Sin (Dominion TV), A Country Called Ghana (Kwadwo Nkansah), and Widow’s Gift (Juliet Ibrahim) all vying for the top honor. The awards will also spotlight the incredible acting talent in the industry. In the Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category, Kwadwo Nkansah (A Country Called Ghana), James Gardiner (Taste of Sin), and Adjetey Anang (Pawn) are the leading nominees. On the female side, Habiba Sinare (Kadara), Nana Ama McBrown (Galamsey), and Nadia Buari (Forever in a Night) are recognized for their stellar performances.
In addition to established talent, the awards will celebrate emerging stars in the Discovery of the Year category, with nominees like Rosemond Brown (Widow’s Gift), Martina Dwamenq (Bruna), and Augustina Aboabo (Big Six) making their mark.
