Dr. Richard Duah Nsenkyire, the owner of FC Samartex, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to strengthen the Black Stars’ technical team as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars’ poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points from three draws and three losses, has raised concerns about the team's readiness for future competitions. Dr. Nsenkyire believes that significant changes need to be made to improve the team’s performance, particularly in their support structure. He highlighted that while the team’s current technical staff, led by head coach Otto Addo, has faced challenges, it is critical for the GFA to ensure the Black Stars are properly equipped to compete in the World Cup qualifiers.
Dr. Nsenkyire proposed that the GFA consider enhancing the technical team, possibly by appointing a technical director to provide additional expertise. He stressed that the current setup, which includes Otto Addo, John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann, and goalkeeper coach Fatau Dauda, has failed to deliver positive results during the AFCON qualifiers. Despite the team’s efforts, their performance in the qualifiers was subpar, and Dr. Nsenkyire argued that strengthening the backroom staff was necessary to boost the team’s chances in the World Cup qualifiers. During an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, he stated, “If the Black Stars’ technical team can improve, we have to do that.” He made it clear that if changes are needed, the GFA must not hesitate to implement them.
The Black Stars are set to face Chad and Madagascar in the final two World Cup qualifying matches in March 2025. These matches are crucial for Ghana’s aspirations to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup, and Dr. Nsenkyire is hopeful that with the right changes to the technical team, the Black Stars will be better prepared for the challenge. He reiterated the importance of making timely adjustments to the team’s structure to avoid repeating the mistakes made during the AFCON qualifiers. The GFA has a limited window to address these concerns, and with the upcoming matches being pivotal for Ghana’s qualification hopes, it is essential that the right decisions are made to ensure the team’s success. Dr. Nsenkyire’s appeal underscores the urgency of taking action to improve the technical staff and maximize the team’s potential moving forward.
