Somewhere in a small farming community in Africa; the sun was setting over a big maize farm. Some baboons and monkeys were very happy and in a jubilation mood; because they had just heard that the farmer who used to chase them away from the maize farm had died.
For a long time, the farmer had grown maize and taken care of his maize farm. He made sure it was always green and healthy. But the baboons and monkeys didn't like the farmer because they thought he was a problem as he wouldn't let them eat the maize.
The baboons and monkeys would often sneak into the field and eat the maize. The farmer would chase them away with a loud shouts, a stick and sometimes a warning shot. But now that the farmer was gone, the baboons and monkeys thought they had won.
They celebrated and danced in the field. But as time passed, they noticed that the maize field was changing. The plants were dying, and the soil was dry. The baboons and monkeys were confused. Where was the maize they used to eat?
One day, they found out that, the maize farm they had been eating from actually belonged to the farmer. They realized how the farmer had taken care of the maize field. The baboons and monkeys realized also that the farmer was not their enemy, but actually the one who grew their food.
They felt sad and sorry for not appreciating the farmer's hard work. But they also felt inspired. They decided to work together to plant and take care of their own maize farm.
It wasn't easy, but they kept trying. And after about 8 years of difficulties, their maize field grow and flourished. The baboons and monkeys were proud of what they had accomplished.
Though hope returned to the animal's farm, they never forgot the farmer who had grown their food for so many years.
The tale of the baboons, the monkeys, and the farmer illustrates the importance of appreciating and valuing what we have while we still have it.
The saying; "You can only appreciate the importance of the well only when it dries up" perfectly captures the moral of this story. The baboons and monkeys took the farmer's efforts for granted, only realizing his importance when he was no longer there to grow the maize farm.
The key takeaways from the story:-
1. Appreciate and value what you have while you still have it.
2. Don't take things or people for granted.
3. Mindfulness, gratitude, and appreciation are essential for a fulfilling life.
4. The Devil you know is better than the Angel you never know.
