Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and Presidential Candidate of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, has extended heartfelt gratitude to the members of the party’s manifesto sub-committee for their dedication and hard work. During a meeting at his residence in Accra, which was attended by chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and committee members, Dr. Bawumia applauded their effort in crafting a detailed policy document that was presented to Ghanaians. He described the manifesto as a significant contribution to the party’s campaign, showcasing transformational policies for the nation. Despite the disappointing outcome of the elections, Dr. Bawumia expressed pride in the work done, emphasizing that the comprehensive document would remain an asset for the future.
Reflecting on the unexpected election results, Dr. Bawumia attributed the party’s loss partly to widespread voter apathy, noting that over two million core supporters did not participate in the voting process. He likened the situation to a nationwide consensus among supporters not to vote, which significantly impacted the party’s performance. Acknowledging the setback, Dr. Bawumia called for a thorough post-mortem to identify the underlying causes of this apathy. He assured that the party would undertake extensive research as part of its reorganization process to rebuild and strategize for future elections. Despite the challenges, he encouraged committee members to view their efforts as valuable and stressed that the policies outlined in the manifesto could still be of great benefit to Ghanaians in the years to come.
The meeting was also attended by Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who chaired the Manifesto Committee, and other party members who have been visiting Dr. Bawumia to show solidarity. As the NPP prepares for a fresh start, Dr. Bawumia has been urging party members to focus on unity and rebuilding, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in its ability to learn from setbacks and come back stronger. He reiterated that the manifesto committee’s contributions were not in vain and encouraged members to remain optimistic about the future. This meeting and other engagements highlight Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to ensuring the NPP emerges more united and better prepared for upcoming challenges, positioning the party for a stronger comeback in subsequent elections.
