As the year draws to a close, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, has cautioned religious leaders to exercise wisdom and restraint in their prophetic declarations during watch night services on December 31.
The final day of the year, December 31 has been known to have brutal and often unchecked prophecies that threatens state security at its best. This he earnestly spoke against and tried to demotivate any utterances or prophecies that would upset peace on that day.
Bishop Asamoah-Gyadu emphasized that while some prophetic declarations may be true, it is essential for religious leaders to be measured in their words to avoid instilling fear and exploiting people's insecurities. He warned that unguarded prophetic declarations can lead to false prophecies, which can have detrimental consequences.
The Presiding Bishop's remarks came during his annual end-of-year and New Year message to the media in Accra. He also touched on various issues affecting the country, including the need for caution during the festive season to prevent vehicular accidents and excessive alcohol consumption.
Bishop Asamoah-Gyadu commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for conducting a successful election and praised the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for conceding defeat before the official declaration. He also lauded President-elect John Mahama and Dr. Bawumia for promoting peace and security in the country.
Looking ahead to the new year, the Presiding Bishop urged the incoming government to tackle pressing issues such as galamsey and streetism. He assured that the Methodist Church would continue to pray for the government as the church celebrates its 190th anniversary next year.
Drawing the curtains down, Bishop Asamoah-Gyadu's message serves as a timely reminder to religious leaders to exercise responsibility and wisdom in their prophetic declarations, promoting a spirit of hope, peace, and unity as the nation enters a new year.
