Afua Asantewaa crosses 43 hours in the Singing Marathon

Guinness World Record (GWR) contender Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has surpassed 43 hours in her remarkable second attempt to set the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual. The marathon, dubbed the Singathon, commenced at dawn on December 21, 2024, at Heroes' Park, located within the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. It is slated to continue until December 25, 2024.

In a deliberate effort to celebrate and promote Ghana’s rich musical heritage on a global stage, Afua Asantewaa has been performing exclusively Ghanaian songs throughout the marathon. Her choice of repertoire reflects her commitment to showcasing the country’s cultural wealth while setting an inspiring example of resilience and determination.

The atmosphere at Heroes' Park is increasingly vibrant as supporters rally behind her. Among them are her husband, Kofi Owusu Aduonum, family members, and residents of Kumasi, who have turned out in numbers to cheer her on. Their unwavering support has visibly energized Afua Asantewaa, fueling her determination to achieve this ambitious goal. Her resilience and passion have not only inspired those present but have also drawn admiration from a wider audience following her journey online.

This marks Afua Asantewaa’s second attempt at breaking the record. Her previous effort, in December 2023, fell short of surpassing the current record of 105 hours, held by India’s Sunil Waghmare. Undeterred by that setback, she has returned with renewed vigor, supported by a dedicated team committed to ensuring her success this time around. Their meticulous planning and preparation underscore the significance of this momentous endeavor.

The Singathon has captured the attention of many across social media platforms, with Ghanaians and fans worldwide closely monitoring her progress. The event has sparked widespread conversations about the importance of perseverance and the celebration of local talent.

Afua Asantewaa’s attempt represents more than just a bid for a world record. It serves as a tribute to Ghana’s musical legacy and a testament to the power of determination. As the marathon progresses, the singer continues to inspire countless individuals, proving that dreams, no matter how ambitious, are attainable with resilience and community support. All eyes remain on Heroes' Park as the countdown to the final hours of this historic feat continues.
