Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as Cheddar, the leader of the New Force Movement, recently addressed rumors that he failed to vote for his own party in the 2024 presidential election. During his first media briefing since the election, held in Accra, Cheddar refuted the claims, stating unequivocally, “My wife voted for me, and I voted for myself.” He expressed his frustration with the tendency to spread false information, urging the public to avoid such destructive behavior. His clarification came after circulating rumors suggested that he had not supported his own presidential bid. Cheddar emphasized that as a nation, it’s crucial to refrain from tearing down individuals with unverified and damaging rumors.

The media briefing also saw Cheddar express his deep concerns regarding the election process, particularly the inconsistencies observed in the handling of results. He specifically highlighted issues around the re-collation and re-declaration of results in constituencies that had been heavily contested, which raised questions about the transparency of the process. Cheddar called for immediate reforms in the country’s electoral system to ensure that the processes are more robust and trustworthy. He pointed out that the existing electoral framework does not adequately support the democratic values the nation aims to uphold. In his view, the current system fails to provide the transparency and fairness needed to foster genuine democracy, making it imperative for the country's leaders to address these shortcomings and implement necessary changes.

Furthermore, Cheddar voiced concerns over the way his election team was managed, revealing that strangers had been assigned as his polling station agents, which he found troubling. This lack of oversight in his campaign’s organization raised additional doubts about the overall effectiveness of his team during the election. He criticized the electoral body’s inability to provide adequate monitoring and organization, which he believed contributed to the uncertainty surrounding the election results. Cheddar made a passionate plea for a collective national effort to establish systems that are rooted in legal frameworks, governance, and transparency. According to him, building and upholding such systems would not only protect the integrity of the electoral process but would also fortify the nation’s democratic principles. He called on all Ghanaians to join in strengthening the country’s democratic foundations for a more prosperous and transparent future.
