2024 WASSCE Results to Be Released by December 29, Assures Education Minister

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has confirmed that the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released by December 29, 2024. This announcement came after Dr. Adutwum's recent working visit to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) printing facility, where he assessed the current situation regarding the examination results.

The visit was prompted by WAEC's earlier communication about delays in releasing the results, which were attributed to technical issues, particularly a malfunctioning scanner. WAEC officials explained that the government's outstanding debts had impeded their ability to repair existing equipment or acquire new scanners, further exacerbating the delay in processing the results.

In light of these challenges, the Ministry of Education has intervened by allocating GH¢25 million to assist WAEC in enhancing its printing capabilities. This financial support is aimed at ensuring that WAEC can efficiently manage its operations and meet deadlines for future examinations.

During his visit, Dr. Adutwum expressed his satisfaction with the efforts being made by WAEC to address these issues. He emphasized that the commitment shown by WAEC staff, who have been working diligently even during the holiday period, is commendable. "This morning, we toured WAEC’s facilities and witnessed firsthand their dedication to resolving these challenges. I assure you that by December 29, or even earlier, our examination results will be ready," he stated.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of timely results for students seeking admission into universities and other higher education institutions. He noted that prompt release of the WASSCE results is crucial for ensuring that students can proceed with their educational aspirations without unnecessary delays.

Accompanying Dr. Adutwum during his visit was the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, who also expressed confidence in WAEC's preparedness. Together, they acknowledged the hard work and commitment of WAEC staff during this critical period.

With the assurance from the Minister of Education, students and stakeholders can look forward to receiving their WASSCE results by the end of December, paving the way for their next steps in higher education.
