Ghana’s Black Galaxies are preparing for a decisive second-leg clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team in the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. Following a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has urged the team to adopt a bold and attacking strategy in the upcoming match. Scheduled for December 28 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, the fixture will determine which team secures a spot in CHAN 2025. Agyemang-Badu, who represented Ghana in the inaugural CHAN tournament in 2009, emphasized the importance of winning, noting that a defensive mindset could lead to disaster. He highlighted the critical nature of this qualifier, especially after Ghana’s failure to secure a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The stakes are incredibly high for the Black Galaxies, as missing out on CHAN 2025 would further dent the country’s football reputation. Agyemang-Badu appealed to fans to support the team and encouraged the players to fight for victory. Reflecting on the first leg, he stressed that the team must not rely on defensive tactics or leave anything to chance. “We should be very careful not to go and defend,” he stated, adding that losing the match would mean another missed opportunity to compete on a continental stage. Ghana's performance in CHAN qualifiers has traditionally been strong, with the team defeating Nigeria in a penalty shootout during the last edition to secure their place in the competition. The Black Galaxies will aim to replicate that success but face a determined Nigerian side seeking to end their two-edition absence from the tournament.

The winner of the two-legged tie will join other African nations in CHAN 2025, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. For both teams, this is more than just a qualifier—it is a chance to showcase their talent and restore pride in their national football programs. With Ghana looking to bounce back after recent setbacks and Nigeria eager to reclaim their place on the CHAN stage, the match promises to be an intense battle. Agyemang-Badu’s rallying call underscores the urgency for the Black Galaxies to rise to the occasion, play with determination, and bring home a victory that will boost morale and secure their spot in the prestigious tournament.
