University Student Remanded for Allegedly Defiling Minor
A level 100 student at Apenteng Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has been remanded in prison custody by the Asante Akropong circuit court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl. Raynus Ofori Mensah, the accused, pleaded not guilty to the defilement charge, but surprisingly claimed to have been in a relationship with the victim for four months.
The court, presided over by Gloria Mensah Bonsu, adjourned the case to December 8, 2025. According to Police Chief Inspector Ruth Gborson, prosecuting the case, Mensah allegedly lured the victim, a Junior High School (JHS) two pupil, into his room after she was sent to his house on an errand. The prosecution alleges that Mensah had sexual intercourse with the minor, causing her to bleed profusely.
After the incident, Mensah reportedly took the unconscious victim to a hospital at Apatrapa. When the victim's mother returned home to find her daughter missing, she contacted Mensah, who claimed to have found the victim bleeding on the AAMUSTED campus and taken her to the hospital. However, when the mother arrived at the hospital, she found Mensah with blood on his sandals, and the victim receiving treatment.
The mother subsequently reported the incident to the police, leading to Mensah's arrest. In his caution statement, Mensah reportedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim. This case bears some resemblance to another incident where a university student was remanded for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girls.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of minors, particularly in educational institutions. It also highlights the need for increased awareness and education about sexual violence and consent. As the case unfolds, it is essential to ensure that justice is served, and the victim receives the necessary support and protection.
