President-elect John Mahama has passionately articulated his deep connection to farming, emphasizing that agriculture is not only a significant part of his life but will also be his primary focus once he retires from politics. During a recent visit to his farm located in Yapei and Busunu within the Savannah region, Mr. Mahama offered a glimpse into his agricultural endeavors and his aspirations for the future.

“Farming is my life,” he expressed earnestly. “I have a profound love for it, and I often think that had I not pursued a career in politics, I would have dedicated myself entirely to farming.” He further stated, “Once I retire from public service, my transition into full-time farming will begin. If anyone wishes to visit me, they will need to find me at my farm.” This commitment underscores his intention to return to his roots and embrace a lifestyle centered around agriculture.

As a former President, Mahama has diversified his agricultural activities, engaging in both crop cultivation and livestock farming. He proudly shared details about his growing agricultural enterprise, revealing, “We initially started with 300 goats and other small ruminants, and our herd has now expanded to nearly 500. Recently, we added another 200 animals to our farm, which is a promising development.” He also mentioned his plans to broaden his farming operations to include sheep and cattle, demonstrating his ambition to enhance his agricultural output.

In terms of crop production, Mahama’s farm focuses on cultivating maize and soybean, which are crucial for supplying feed to poultry farms, notably Asutuare farms. He acknowledged the complexities of balancing his political responsibilities with his passion for farming, stating, “This endeavor transcends mere business; it represents a way of life for me. Working on the farm brings me a sense of therapy and fulfillment.” His remarks highlight a deep-seated dedication to agriculture, framing it as more than a profession—it's a vital contribution to Ghana's food security and a personal passion that enriches his life. As Mahama prepares for this new chapter, his commitment to farming reflects a holistic approach to life that intertwines personal fulfillment with national development.
