Jaguar’s recent rebranding has faced criticism, particularly due to its controversial ad campaign, but the upcoming electric vehicles (EVs) it previews, including the 2026 electric fastback, have the potential to shift public perception. The Type 00 concept, which initially sparked backlash, has since earned more favorable reviews from those who’ve seen it in person. With its futuristic design inspired by 1930s Art Deco, the car features a long hood, butterfly doors, and a chopped top. The production model, set to debut in 2026, will retain these striking design elements but offer greater practicality, such as two additional doors, while keeping the bold and unconventional aesthetic intact.
The production version of the fastback is expected to have a low-slung body with retro-futuristic styling, setting it apart from other EVs on the market. Notably, it will likely omit a back window, following in the footsteps of models like the Polestar 4 and 5, while maintaining the chopped-top look. Jaguar intends to deliver strong performance and range, targeting a new demographic, particularly first-time Jaguar buyers, while offering competitive specifications in the luxury EV market.
Despite the mixed reception to its ad campaign, the Type 00 concept’s design radiates luxury with its Art Deco influences. The production car will keep key design features, including sleek lines on the front and rear, a prominent charging port, and a redesigned “Leaper” logo. Built on Jaguar’s new Electrified Architecture (JEA) platform, the car will support 800-volt architecture for efficient charging and boast an impressive range of up to 430 miles (EPA) or 478 miles (WLTP). It will also feature dual-motor all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering for enhanced performance.
The expected price of around $120,000 places the new EV in the same price range as the former XJ sedan. As part of its strategy to reposition itself as a premium all-electric brand, Jaguar plans to reduce its traditional dealer network and introduce “Jaguar houses” in major cities. These will offer a luxury car-buying experience similar to brands like Rolls-Royce and Bentley. This shift reflects Jaguar’s goal of securing a competitive position in the luxury electric vehicle market.
