Setting the Records Straight: The True Story of the Mazema Incident
In the early hours of yesterday, an incident occurred around Mazema involving a KIA Rhino lorry. The vehicle, which was moving along that stretch of road, was stopped and interrogated by locals in the area. It was discovered that the driver and his mate were Ashantis who intended to load picks for transport to Kumasi. However, they had unknowingly used the wrong route to approach the area, which raised suspicions.
After realizing their mistake, the locals warned the driver and his mate, advising them to leave the area immediately. To emphasize the warning and instill fear, some gunshots were fired into the air. This was a stern message to deter the driver and others from using that particular road in the future.
Upon further investigation, the lorry’s owner revealed that he was unaware the vehicle had even ventured into Bawku. According to him, he had instructed the driver to deliver goods in Bazua and then return. When it became evident that the lorry did not belong to any Mamprusi, the situation de-escalated. Initially, some individuals contemplated setting the vehicle ablaze, but this decision was reversed. Instead, they decided to inform the police to come and retrieve the vehicle, which was left unharmed.
Unfortunately, this incident has been misrepresented by some Mamprusi social media users, who have been spreading false narratives about what transpired. Notably, individuals like “Bawku Links” and “Fati Moses” have falsely claimed on Facebook that the driver of the lorry, who they allege was a Kusasi, was shot and killed. This narrative is entirely untrue and appears to be an attempt to mislead their followers and create confusion.
The truth of the matter remains clear: no one was harmed in this incident. The vehicle was preserved, and the authorities were duly informed. While some may attempt to manipulate the facts for their agendas, the real story remains as presented here.
It is important to approach such incidents with clarity and truthfulness, avoiding the spread of misinformation that only serves to fuel divisions. Let us continue to seek and share the truth in all matters concerning our communities.
