[29/12, 9:35 am] Parker_Perry999: On Boxing Day, Manchester City extended their losing streak to one win in thirteen games, and they were as lacklustre as they have been at any point in the previous two months. The pace of a slide is increasing. They are one goal and one point clear of ninth place. They are as far away from Crystal Palace (16th) as they are from Liverpool (1st)

[29/12, 9:37 am] Parker_Perry999: In contrast, Leicester's defensive continues to be a problem, and they don't seem to have made any progress under Ruud van Nistelrooy. Only once this season have they maintained a clean sheet, and that was at the beginning of October. With ten goals given up, their Boxing Night loss to Liverpool in the fog was their third consecutive loss. Historical guidance When Leicester defeated Manchester City 3-1 in February 2016, it was clear that the eventual fairytale winners had a lot of momentum. Form, meanwhile, has been inconsistent lately. The last time Leicester defeated them was at Wembley in the 2021 Community Shield. Since then, Manchester City has won each of their last four encounters. Important participants Erling Haaland, who scored, is beginning to get questions.

[29/12, 9:38 am] Parker_Perry999: Even though there were no new injuries from the Everton game, Manchester City still has the same long-term losses. Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, and Kevin de Bruyne might make a comeback after missing that one. After missing their trip to Anfield, Jamie Vardy ought to return for Leicester. Harry Winks and Facundo Buonanotte might also make a comeback. Forecast Despite gaining the lead at Anfield and maintaining it until first half stoppage time, there hasn't been much indication that Leicester has been substantially revived by their new manager thus far. This is still a test for Manchester City, though. There has been hope that they will just get back into gear and forget about their previous bad run, but there haven't been many indications of this year

Manchester City carry the same long-term losses, though there were no fresh injuries from the Everton match. Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker missed that one and may return, as could Kevin de Bruyne from the start. Jamie Vardy should return for Leicester after missing their trip to Anfield. Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Winks may also return.

Prediction

There’s been little to suggest that Leicester have been significantly revitalised by their new manager yet, despite taking the lead at Anfield and holding it until first half stoppage-time. But for Manchester City, this remains a test. Throughout their recent poor run, there’s been an expectation that they’ll just click back into gear and all this will be forgotten, but there have been few signs of this yet, and it’s starting to feel as though the rot may run deeper than injuries alone. We’ve been waiting for them to bottom out, but it hasn’t come yet. In the expectation that this can’t go on forever, I’m going City to nick this 2-1, giving Pep Guardiola a win on what is the occasion of the his 500th game in charge of the click
