The two have had a long-standing dissension, often bartering jabs whenever the chance arises, with some remarks crossing personal lines and becoming quite heated.
At times, their back-and-forth seems like playful banter between two of Ghana’s top artists, but things took a more serious turn during the 2019 Ghana Music Awards when a conflict between them led to the termination of the entire event. Both were banned from participating in the awards, but the ban was lifted in 2021. Despite this, their feud continues, whether in jest or with sharp criticisms.
Stonebwoy’s recent comments came in response to news that Shatta Wale had given his camp member, MC Portfolio, GH₵ 5,000. In an interview on Angel FM, Stonebwoy dismissed Shatta Wale’s gesture as a trick and an attempt to manipulate and impress MC Portfolio.
“Brother, it’s no big deal… if the ‘big mouth’ is giving you money, it’s not a problem. He’s just playing a game,” Stonebwoy said. “It’s all part of his act to deceive MC Portfolio... He’s lying, it’s all a set-up. Do you know the cars I drive? Do you know the blessings God has given me that I don’t even boast about?”
Stonebwoy made these remarks while MC Portfolio was present in the studio. The reigning Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year also questioned Shatta Wale’s claims of wealth.
“He’s using GH₵ 5,000 to set things up. He thinks he’s rich because he keeps five cedi notes in his room. He tried to intimidate MC Portfolio with that money. Ask him how many times I’ve promised to give him something—by God’s grace, I have more than that to offer,” he added.
So far, Shatta Wale has not publicly responded to Stonebwoy’s comments.
